Remedies to Fix a Broken Floor Tile

March 24, 2015 by · Leave a Comment

Loose or broken floor tiles can be tricky. I hope you saved a few extra tiles so that one can be replaced if it gets broken. First you will need to remove the bad one. Use a hammer to break it up. (Be sure to wear safety goggles) Cover the area with an old towel so that the chips will be contained. Once the tile is broken into pieces, begin using a scraper to get all of the tile, grout and mortar out of the area. You will then use new mortar to set the new tile. Be sure to let the tile dry and set for a minimum of 24 hours. During this time make sure no one steps on it. (block off the area) Once the tile mortar is set you are ready to grout. Be sure to follow the directions on the grout, don’t use too much water, this can cause it to crack in a short period. Mix the grout and wait for a short period before mixing again. Then apply the grout. It is a good idea to use an old paint brush and wipe the area around the tile with a small amount of water, so that when the new grout is applied the dry areas surrounding it don’t take the moisture out of the grout. Again, keep the area blocked off for at least 24 hours. That should do the trick. If you don’t feel comfortable tackling the repair, you can always call on us here at Andy’s Home and Business
